New Chisel Records Artist: Fat Heaven

We are stoked to be working with Fat Heaven on their debut 7″ ep!  They are a super rad new rock and roll two-piece from New York City made up of Travis on guitar and Gayla on drums.

More info on this release will be coming out over the next few weeks and the release date will be late December/early January.  In the meantime listen to “Liar and a Thief” over and over again like I’ve been doing the last few weeks.  There are already been so many kind words written about Fat Heaven and I’ll post the links below, as well as their Facebook and Twitter.

“Listen to Fat Heaven’s debut single “Liar and a Thief” and get acquainted with the NYC duo that’s about to set the Rock N Roll world on fire”

“On “Liar and a Thief”, the guitar/drum tandem get ripped off by a tough love who makes off with not just their hearts, but searing solos and punk-surf harmonies.”

Summer’s Over and I Have a Lot of Records

Another slow Summer has come and gone and I need to make room for some new records!  As you probably know, we have a ridiculously huge sale going on right now.  These titles for the most part will not be restocked, so if you are interested in these, pick them up now as you won’t finder better prices on these anywhere.   Every record in this bunch is solid as a rock.  It’s just that we are going to be focusing less on “indie”, soul and folkish stuff and more on punk and punk influenced music.

On top of that sweet sale, I just added a new coupon code that will save you 15% off of your order.  I sprained my ankle and will be off from my day job for awhile so help keep me busy and use the code-  sprain

Shipping To The USA Can Now Be Cheaper

I decided that since I am in the USA once every couple of weeks (at least), I can off media mail shipping rates.  The only catch is that I will only be shipping US orders once every couple of weeks, so you’ll have to wait a bit longer for your records.  OR, you could time it well as I’ll be announcing cut off dates etc.  You will still have the option of ordering from the site and paying more to have your records shipped directly from Canada, if you are in a hurry.

This is brand new, so I’ll start of doing it this way:

-Email me with your order

-I’ll send you a Paypal invoice with media mail shipping rates

-Once it’s paid I’ll pack up your order and mail it once I’m in the US

-I’ll make sure to keep you in the loop about when your records actually ship

NEW CHISEL RECORDS RELEASE: CR-002 – Edmonton – Walk It Off**

**Update:  Preorders will begin on Monday, June 23rd!  Canada will be ordering from us and all US preorders will be made through Jeremy Records.   Until preorders go live, I have discounted the shipping for Canada to just $6 (flat rate).

We’re extremely excited that this lovely record will be put out by Chisel Records  later in July and you can stream/download the entire album ahead of time.  I highly suggest you do, as you shouldn’t wait any longer to listen to this gem and all the money for downloads goes to help the band for their upcoming tour starting near the end July.  Help them put gas in their tank and hot rods in their bellies.  I’m not sure people actually eat hot rods, I just see them often in gas stations.  Enough about me being weird…..

This album has been played daily since I heard it a month or so ago and still can’t get enough of it.  I’m sure you will be in the same boat as me if this is a genre that you dig.

Below are some facts.

Band: Edmonton

Album: Walk It Off

Home: Gainesville, Florida USA

Genre(s): indie/emo/punk

Members: Rick – Guitar, Kiiks – Vocals/Guitar, James – Bass, Johnny – Drums

FFO: The Weakerthans, The Promise Ring,  Dikembe, Prawn, The Get Up Kids

Pressing Information:

200 Black vinyl

100 Transparent Purple

25 Super splatter (available from the band on tour)

We will have preorders in about 3 weeks or so (late June) that will coincide with preorders in a US store, so no one has to spend too much on shipping.  We will also be looking for a location in the UK/EU where this will be available online.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  I really appreciate everyone’s support on all of my ventures so far.  This one is really exciting as it’s Chisel’s first solo release and I’m extremely lucky that a band of this caliber has trusted me with their hard work.

If you write a blog/reviews, run a radio show/podcast and would like to review/play this album, please get in touch and I can send you a download code.

New Chisel Records Release…….

…..will be announced here at 5pm Thursday June 5th.

Gone Pouzza(ing) / Last Day For A Free Record

Hey everyone!  As of Thursday, May 16th, I will be in Montreal for Pouzza Fest.  As I’m the only human that runs this show, no one will be shipping orders until I get back on Wednesday, May 21st.  Feel free to order away, as we have a bunch of limited stuff that I wouldn’t want you to miss out on.  We are low on the Del Paxton 12″s and the Caffiends preorder for the green vinyl is moving quite fast. TODAY (May 15th) is the last day to preorder the Caffiends LP if you want a bonus 5.5″ lathe cut with an unreleased song on it!  This is a no brainer for sure!  If you are reading and the calender still reads May 15th (it actually has to be the 15th, you can’t just leave or alter the calender ;)) you should be adding the this to your order.  This record is a pop punk masterpiece.  It is also Chisel Records’ first release and it would be real sweet of ya to order it. To make things even sweeter, I will leave the shipping at $6.99 (reg. $11.99) for Canada until I return!  There will also be an announcement shortly after concerning a new Chisel Records release! Maybe I’ll see ya at Pouzza Fest??

PS. Go see Wasted Potential if you are going.  I live in the same city with these rad dudes and get to see them often, yet I’m still stoked to check them out Friday night!  Here is a list of the other bands I will try and see: The Hold Steady, Chixdiggit, The Front Bottoms, Dillinger Four, The Menzingers, Tim Barry, Laura Stevenson, Two Cow Garage, 7 Seconds, Drag The River, Night Birds, Junior Battles, Aspiga, Save Ends, The Hunters, The Reveling, Old Flings, School Damage, Signals Midwest, Stuck Out Here, The Mad Murdocks, The Victim Party, Stabbed In Back, Riot Porn, Laureate, Hold Tight!, Brutal Youth, Annabel (I haven’t checked the schedule yet, so I’m sure there will be a few conflicts here)

Caffiends Video For ‘Smoke N’ Monsters’

Check out the brand new video from Orlando pop punkers, Caffiends!  We are stoked to announce that we will be putting out the vinyl edition of this record in Canada!  Help us out by spreading the word and sharing this video.  The vinyl release date will be sometime in May and preorders will be up in a few weeks.  I’ll have more details soon!

New Happenings

As many of you know now, we had to change the flat rate shipping price in Canada to $11.99.  We had a small vote and it was decided that we would have one price for all of Canada instead of charging by region.  The regional thing would be a little hairy to figure out as it’s not just distance that decides the price of shipping.  For instance, it is cheaper to ship to Whitehorse, YT (5,459 kms) than it is to St. Thomas, ON (27 kms).  I hope that this works for everyone.  We all hate paying more for stuff, but sometimes it has to be done to keep the things we love going strong.

Some people may know this already, but one of the goals of Chisel Records is to start putting out records as a label.  Well, the time has come.  I really wanted to get a handle on mailorder and prove that I am running a legitimate business before I started the label side of Chisel Records.  Through these 3.5 years of hard work, I’ve manged to build a solid customer base of amazing people.  Thanks so much for that!  So far there are two releases that I will be working on.  I’m not going to officially announce the bands until we have some release dates in mind.  One is a band from Florida and the other band is from North Carolina.  Keep in touch to find out exactly what these will be.  I’m really excited about both projects and can’t wait to let you know all the info.  As I am just one dude that still works a full-time job on top of this, I want to make sure I don’t put too much on my plate.  This will ensure that every release gets all the attention it deserves.  Please help me by spreading the word!

Even though I will be putting out records, there will always be loads of awesome non Chisel Records releases added to the store on a regular basis.  Lately I’ve added Get Party Records releases, limited Epitaph reissues (hopefully more to come), Wax Packs from Secret Audio Club, the new Iron Chic LP, loads of awesome Last Chance Records releases, releases by Deathwish Inc. and tons more SST Records stuff (still) at a great price, that won’t last much longer.  Other labels that we carry lots of their titles include Black Numbers, Tiny Engines, Last Chance Records, Tour Van Records, Grave Mistake Records, Bitter Melody Records, Say-10 Records, Swamp Cabbage Records, Eccentric Pop Records, Asian Man Records, Self Aware Records, Hosehead Records, Deathwish Inc, Get Party Records, Jeremy Records, Grave Mistake Records, Baldy Longhair Records, Hahaha Cool! Records, Flannel Gurl Records, Polyvinyl Records and No Idea Records.  We obviously carry loads of other labels’ releases through distributors but these are people I deal with direct and they are all awesome, hard-working people putting out incredible releases.  Check out the ones you haven’t heard and enjoy some new and amazing music.

Thanks so much for getting Chisel Records where it is now.  I have seen so many new people ordering stuff and I hope you enjoy the store as much as my regulars do!
